Luxfer dual fuel systems

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 1, 2003)—A Luxfer full-wrap carbon composite cylinder was used in a demonstration of the latest bi-fuel vehicle technology at the Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Conference.

The 3,600-psi, 125L, Type 3 Luxfer cylinder was installed in a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck running on a volume-based blend of 25% hydrogen and 75% natural gas. The fuel system was developed and demonstrated by ECO Fuel Systems, Inc., a B.C., Canada-based provider of alternative fuel-injection technology. The truck was featured during the “Ride & Drive” vehicle demonstration at Mandalay Bay Resort.

Injection control system enables vehicles to operate on the special fuel bi-fuel blend. Blending hydrogen with natural gas in an internal combustion engine overcomes the reductions of power and range experienced with hydrogen alone. “Stimulating the use of this renewable fuel in everyday applications will help encourage the development of the ‘bridge’ to the hydrogen economy,” an ECO spokesperson said. The ECO system also enables vehicles to operate on 100% compressed natural gas (CNG), as well as regular gasoline.

Luxfer carbon composite technology was chosen for the demonstration vehicle because of its strength, durability and lightness of weight.
